Description: *
Gyokuro Asahina Tea. Full-leaf Japanese green tea from the historic Uji tea gardens.
Gyokuro, "Jewel Dew", is one of the most sought after green teas in Japan. Produced at the historic Uji tea gardens near Kyoto, the bushes for this tea are shaded by straw mats before harvesting to slow their growth and enhance the tea.
This extra fine grade consists of the most tender, dark green leaf tips from the first harvest of the season. The cup is full of flavor with a wonderful, flowery aroma.
Use 1 level teaspoon per 6 oz cup. Heat water until steaming. Steep for 1-2 minutes. Good for multiple infusions.

"Try 140 degree water and babysit it until it has a flavor you like; it gets fishy very quickly. Add more water to the leaves as you drink. Has a great vegetal, floral, and sweet flavor when done right with a minty aftertaste. Recommended for all tea lovers, even if they aren't big on greens in particular. A must try at least once."

"This tea is horrid when oversteeped. It's very fishy, very Japanese in its taste and aroma, but has beautiful color and a very thick, syrupy feel. It's super high quality tea and any green tea lover should try it, though it is not quite for me."

"So far this is the absolute best green tea I have ever tasted! I now understand both its name and its price! It is for sure the "Jewel" of green tea. The most sublime flavors that explode in your mouth. Please, please, please don't ruin this tea by mixing it with something else.. and only if you absolutely Must add sweetener make sure it is the least amount you can so as to not cover the taste. A tea lovers dream!"

"It has become my staple Japanese green tea. Produces a beautiful light green liquor. Flavor is more refined and less bitter than sencha teas. Can infuse multiple times with a consistent flavor."

"I have always enjoyed green tea. While I enjoy the sweet bitterness of most green teas this particular one was very "sweet" and have a great finish."

"I've been sampling gyokuro teas from several sources in the past month, as I learn more about green tea in general. So far, this particular gyokuro is my favorite. It has a distinctly Japanese character to the flavor -- very reminiscent of matcha. My husband likes this better than matcha, actually. He prefers the subtler flavor of this tea. Excellent tea!"

"I didn't really think there would be much difference between this tea and other green teas that I've tried. However it actually has a very distinct taste that is really nice. To me the first note was similar to other green teas, but the aftertaste, like its aroma was very distinct and kinda powerful (I mean not a faint taste that u have to strain for). I really liked this tea and I think its definately worth the price."
