Description: *
Ti Kuan Yin (Iron Goddess) Tea. Full-leaf Chinese oolong tea rolled into pellets.

Legend:
The legend behind this tea has many variations but the following is the most common account.

Deep in the heart of Fujian's Anxi County there was a rundown temple that held inside an iron statue of Kuan Yin, the Goddess of Mercy. Everyday, on his walk to his tea fields, a poor farmer would pass by and reflect on the worsening condition of the temple.

Something has to be done, thought Mr. Wei. But he did not have the means to repair the temple, poor as he was.

Instead the farmer brought a broom and some incense from his home. He swept the temple clean and lit the incense as an offering to Kuan Yin. It's the least I can do, he thought to himself.

Twice a month for many months, he repeated the same task. Cleaning and lighting incense. One night, Kuan Yin appeared to him in a dream. She told him of a cave behind the temple where a treasure awaited him. He was to take the treasure for himself, but also to share it with others.

In the cave, the farmer found a single tea shoot. He planted it in his field and nurtured it into a large bush, of which the finest tea was produced. He gave cuttings of this rare plant to all his neighbors and began selling the tea under the name Ti Kuan Yin, Iron Goddess of Mercy.

Over time, Mr. Wei and all his neighbors prospered. The rundown temple of Kuan Yin was repaired and became a beacon for the region. And Mr. Wei took joy in his daily trip to his tea fields, never failing to stop in appreciation of the beautiful temple.

Other names: Ti Kwan Yin, Tieguanyin, Tie Guan Yin, Iron Goddess of Mercy, Tea of the Iron Bodhisattva

***** Good value for the money 05/11/2009 12:28
"I drink this tea every day and enjoy it, I would like to find some more Phoenix #1 though.

Good quality at a fair price."

"Still a lighter oolong, I found this tea to have a deeper, almost toasted flavor when compared to Ti Kuan Yin (Phoenix #1). The floral qualities are present, though not as pronounced as in the Phoenix #1 variety. The tea lasts well through multiple steepings. This tea is a great value for the price."

***** Perfect! 03/01/2008 06:54
"I love this tea! It is subtly strong. Great for sitting quietly and sipping as the morning unfolds. I recommend this tea to those who enjoy a subtly powerful tea. I get 3 cups from one infusion before the tannins start to come out. "

***** Excellent tea 02/07/2008 08:55
"Love this tea. Smooth but takes awhile to brew. Don't expect a second cup from your infuser. Smooth, no aftertaste."

***** Second Fave 01/12/2008 07:05
"This is my second favorite oolong, behind the Jade. Delicate and fruity, this oolong is greener than most and delicious. A must-have!"

***** Good for the price 01/03/2008 19:40
"It tasted good, it wasn't "phenomenal" but for the price it is a value, especially for an everyday tea drinker like me. I taste the tiniest hint of grassiness or almost a hint of black tea I can't quite put my finger on the exact flavor/aroma. I was hoping of a little more floral aroma. "

***** Excellent Oolong! 12/13/2007 15:56
"Truly unique among the many Oolong Teas I've tasted! Mild yet full of that unique and wonderful taste that is found only in the Ti Kuan Yin Oolong Tea tradition. I simply keep coming back to it! No wonder it's the staff's pick as well. Highly recommended!"

***** Great Flavor Great Price 11/26/2007 14:33
"I am reasonably new to Oolong teas, but the Ti Kuan Yin has a very mild, green flavor with a nice finish. I was very pleased with the amount of tea I received for the price. "

***** Dirnk it almost everyday 11/23/2007 15:18
"I have gone through almost a whole pound in a month if that tells you anything, and I steep this several times before getting a fresh batch of leaves. Great everyday tea."

***** New Favorite 10/18/2007 22:07
"I didn't expect to like this, thinking it would be too close to "green", But it is delicious! I don't know "orchid" but it does taste flowery. I took one measure to work with me today, and been sipping it all day. Beautiful green/gold color and taste through 6 steeps. Continued on to 7th and 8th just to see if it would go that many. Their flavor was not as strong, but still good. Will definitely order more."

***** Excellent Value 09/18/2007 07:15
"Sweet, smooth, and flowery. This tea tastes like it should cost twice what it does. I prefer to let is steep longer than recommended (normally 4 mins) and it is good for at least two steepings. Make sure you give the leaves plenty of room to open or you'll get a flat tasting cup."

***** Very Good 09/09/2007 23:02
"Enjoying this Tea very much. As others have said needs a longer steep than 2 min - 4 or 5 more like it. Easily getting 4 steeps and probably could go for 6."
